Hello
Delica Star Wagon 1991.
Just about to replace water pump. The rather basic manual I have says the diesel engine version requires the timing belt removal. I thought the pump is ancillary and run by the fan belt. Can anyone please advise.

You are right, Timus. Waterpump/fan is run off the ancilliary V belt, and should not require removal of the timing belt, which runs on fuel pump, camshaft, and crankshaft. Removing the radiator will allow you to remove the fan, to give better access to the water pump bolts, after slackening the alternator adjuster to loosen the belt. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Changed mine on Mitsi FI without taking the radiator out even.
Can be done, just takes time.
Recommend a good flush of the cooling system at the same time.
Also be careful when you refill as you can easily get an airlock and overheat your engine. _________________ Ian.

I reckon that as you are draining it anyway by removing the pump, it is then easy to remove the rad, and give yourself more room. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Also give the rad a thorough flush. _________________ Ian.
