Hi all thanks for other responses, still got no overdrive, the switch works & the light come on/off in the dash. OD did work initially but now nothing & it's unbearable on the motorway. Is the temperature sensor found 'upright' under the intercooler (it looks a good contender)? the spade connector on this sensor isn't rattling loose but can be turned slighly on it's mounting/rivet.

looked on the part number list & either missed it or couldn't find one for the sensor does anyone have it (its a 94 Space Gear)?

cheers Jim

Assuming it's a 2.8 the upright sensor will be the oil pressure warning light switch,   overdrive temp sensor is the forward most one of the 2 or 3 under where the top hose meets the engine,  it has a single wire which if you earth should will allow operation of the overdrive (that's all the sensor does, earths the wire at around 60°c coolant temp)

Thanks mark, I've never seen external oil plumbing that high on an engine which led to the mistake, sounds like a great test to find out if it is the sensor.
cheers jim

Although the earlier models tend to have the ECU use a dedicated temp sensor in the top Radiator hose elbow some models do not have it, in which case they use the temp sensor that is on top of the cylinder head, near to the front glow plug.

sensor in place, no wire! bit of scrabbling in the dark found it, not clicking on so sitting loose then, I assume, falling off - new spade = new car!!

Thanks both.
