Just back from the Disserth meet in Wales, for once the L300s outnumbered the L400 by 4 to one.
The two guys we met with their well lifted and sorted L300s took us over some good lanes and around one of the reservoirs (almost empty) and to a pub with good food and beer.
Weather was mostly rain but that didn't dampen our spirits (we had our own bottled stuff).
More to come and pics when I get them downloaded.

Safely home - 750 miles after setting off on Thursday. I don't feel at all tired, totally relaxed and refreshed with no worries about the old L300 letting me down, even though the A/T temp light did come on briefly a couple of times on some of the longer, steeper Welsh passes, and despite having to spend two and a half hours in stop/start traffic on the Thursday after a truck hit a bridge on the M6 near Preston. Thanks to the others for an enjoyable weekend, seeing some beautiful countryside. All praise to the Welsh roads authorities for maintaining their 'A' roads in a condition that shames many English areas, although their direction signs are a bit inconsistent and confusing. Thank goodness for sat-nav and my 1999 road atlas!

Bad luck on that, Ian. Does that mean MPVs are classified as vans, not cars?  I got stuck in a roadworks queue on the A49 because the stop-go men at each end weren't communicating!  Good pic, btw. Are you able to fix the system problem?

It said I was Class 5, one down from the highest.
Can't argue with a machine so had to pay it.
Good job it took card payment as hadn't enough cash on me.
Built up quite a queue as I had to get out and read through the info board and pay.

Will have another go with the pics tomorrow.

That rip off has come up a few times, the first was back in 2005:-

Wales meet 27 July 2018

For once I managed to arrive early, at Disserth Campsite to find only Ian there, Andy arrived shortly after.

Saturday, off we went to join Simon and friends at Pont Ar Elan. Which I know quite well.

Simon showed us a trail from Pont Ar Elan to Rhayadar. Four L300’s and me (L400) I took the rear position, figuring I could find my way off the trail if I got left behind.

At stages, I did feel the bumps a bit hard (rocky shale) Other times I felt that the leader, Simon was going a bit slow, there was a part that opened out to two tracks, and the going was smooth, I got fed with waiting, and overtook three L300’s ¬ Simon saw me coming, he thought “You ain’t getting past me” - - - I didn’t  Rolling Eyes

Off to a fuel shop in Rhayadar to top up. Then off to the trail around part of the Claerwen Reservoir,
This was a long trail, I found the going hard, rocky shale with some boulders bigger than Cricket Balls.

So, I just trundled along in 1st gear at engine idle speed, also thinking about tyre damage.
At times the guys would wait for me, that wasn’t really necessary, as I would occasionally “Boot it” to keep up with them.

The trail ended in a tarmac road, that led to the Teifi Inn at Rhos Ffair. A nice meal = a god portion of Breaded Scampi, fries and peas, a pint of Tetleys, just over a tenner  Smile

When we left the pub, Andy and Ian went back to Disserth, Simon and pals, went off to Strata Florida - I think ?

I went back to the tarmac road to have a look at a part of the scenery, that had larg-ish humps.

Should have gone with Simon, ‘cos, that’s where I went next. See remains of the Strata Florida Abbey, continued along the road, onto the “logging” track, quite smooth, for the artics carrying the logs. Up to the top, which opened to a large circular area, probably good for wild camping.

Then back to Disserth. On Sunday I showed Andy & Ian a road not far from the campsite, which is a bit wild and nearly 1200 ft above sea level.
Unfortunately it was raining quite hard – spoiled the views. Rolling Eyes

Ian and I took a very wet, but scenic trip over to check out the Strata Florida the following day, via Builth Wells. We followed the same logging track, criss crossing the old Strata Florida track, which looked too flooded and rough for us to risk trying it. (A member of W.Midlands 4x4 club reports a six hour rescue from it this weekend, so we were probably wise!)
We returned to the pub, and found my tin can reversing light in the car park where I had knocked it off on the fence (a quick repair job). Devil's Bridge Gorge cascades were impressive with rainwater on the way back to camp site. L300 suspension bouncy, but not uncomfortable on the upper Elan tracks.
