Hi guys!
Hope you are well.
Here's one for ya!
I've got 1988 L300. The identification plate says the gear box is KM147, 4875 gear ratio.
I have an old rusted out 1988 Pajero that i have used for parts. It has the V5M21 transmision, also 4875 gear ratio.
Second gear is knocking, so I've been avoiding it.
I want to go in and fix it, but I want to be prepared before I open it up.
I did a 4x4 subaru in 1980 something. It's been a while, but I think I can handle this
As we get older the memory isn't as sharp and patience is tried more quickly, so I don't to keep this thing open a long time.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to replace some of the housing and use the Pajero tranny (V5M21) in my L300?
2. If I have go into my original KM147 tranny, would the gears from the V5M21 be interchangeable?
4. why am I not able to find any info on the KM147. Is it found under another name?
Thanks guys for any help you can provide.
If I do go into it, let me know what I can provide to this forum, that would be of help to others.
God bless!

KM147 is the old number for the V5M21.

Thanks Lewis.
There's as much good info for the Delica/L300 on this site as anywhere else on the web.
hats off to you all ...and Thanks
It looks like I found an L300 transmission in Austria for 300 euro.
I have a friend who will be coming to Romania in two weeks and he will bring it with him. |

I've just finished rebuilding a V5M21 and figured out most of the differences between it and the KM147. It's basically a stronger gearbox with a revised (stronger) 5th gear and better bearings. I made a thread about it here on Delica.ca.
The KM147 is difficult to find information about because it's a cable-shift 4WD gearbox, and was only fitted to the Delica. The KM132 has the same mechanical parts but a different shifter mechanism. I found a great step-by-step rebuild thread here at StarquestClub. |

You're all a bunch of colorful gents. LoL
Purplekawasaki and PinkPig thanks for your replies.
Purplekawasaki, I find your information very helpful.
I will pick up the replacement tranny on the 10th. If there are any problems with it I'll go into my old one.
In fact, I'm tempted to do it anyway, rebuild it as a replacement since I have two of these vans, and keepit around as a spare.
Thanks for taking the time for these posts
Wish you guys the best. |
