Over time heat from the engine will cause various gaskets and seals to change shape, allowing some oil to leak. A small amount is not a problem, providing it does not drip onto the road surfaces, where it can cause accidents. Better to replace when you can. Drips will get more and more obvious

Light brown to black – Medium consistency - Engine oil: fairly obvious as it will be either directly under the engine. At the back end of the engine, dripping, or flowing, down onto the crossbeam indicates it's coming from the Half moon seal fitted at the top of the engine block under the back end of the rocker cover. If it is not coming from the top of the block check the oil vent at the bottom of the Bell Housing, which indicates the rear crankshaft seal has gone. Don't run the engine or it will seize up. If it is coming from the back of the front pulley then the front crankshaft seal has gone. Fortunately that is far easier to replace than the rear one. If oil is being sprayed, by the radiator fan, across the front of the engine then check the oil pressure sensor isn't leaking.

Reddish to light brown or blackish – Thinner than engine oil - Transmission Fluid (ATF):
Puddles nearer to the vehicle centre are usually Transmission Oil .Auto transmission oil is normally reddish. Light brown or blackish and thin indicates contaminated or burnt ATF. Again if it is coming out of the bell housing the front seal in the transmission has gone.

Light yellow to straw colour - Thin and greasy - Air conditioning:
Usually under the Rear air-con radiator, below the passenger side. due to its susceptibility to damage when offroading, or the front one after a collision. Cut the belt off to stop the pump turning.

Clear watery fluid - if noted under the front end, after leaving the Deli parked for a while when the aircon has been used, or in the drivers footwell - it will be condensation from the Air conditioner system condensers. If from the side, then Two other reasons are a water draining pipe, from the sunroofs, that goes down the inside of the 'B' pillar and exits just in front of the sliding door. If you look underneath you should be able to see the end of it.  Plus Condensation from the Aircon Radiator.

Mucky watery fluid - if noted under the front wheel arches it will be water draining down from the front sunroof. further back it will be from the rear Moonroof, if you have one. If only from the front of the passenger wheel arch it may be the windscreen/headlight washer bottle. If from the rear passenger side check the tailgate washer bottle.

Reddish to light brown – Thin and usually at the front or side of the engine - Power steering:
Power steering systems often use the same fluid you have in your transmission. On the L400 the power steering reservoir is located forward of the battery on the passenger side. You can often get some leakage down the connecting pipes under the battery directly above the steering rack.

Clear or brown  – Thin slippery and under the wheels - Brake fluid:
Fresh fluid is normally clear, but may have a brownish tint. You may also get it leaking from joint or through cracks and worn parts of the brake pipes.

Brown  – Thick and greasy, possibly with a bluish or greenish tint - Differential oil:
You will normally tell which of the diffs is leaking by the location, front, centre or rear. On the front and rear axle it may also be coming out of the ends behind the wheel hubs.

Red, blue, pink or green, bright and shiny - thin and watery - Engine Coolant:
The L400 has a drain pipe from the cooling system expansion tank that drains to the front of the passenger side front wheel arch. If it is anywhere else then check pipes for leaks or damage. the rear heater unit is located in front of the driver's side rear wheel. If located at the front end of the engine check the water pump for white'ish stains coming from holes to the top or bottom of the armature. the stains indicate the seal has gone and the pump needs replacing.

Yellow - By a wheel - more obvious in snow - Dog Pee (Hopefully).  Rolling Eyes

Bright red - thick and gooey - at the front end or under wheel arches. Road kill:
Normally accompanied by fur, feathers, beaks or teeth. Check the front panels, lights, and tyres for damage wash and replace as required.  Rolling Eyes
