Search Gumtree for 1988 Shogan (sic) and you will find there is currently one for sale in Manchester, listed as a 2.5 V6. A check on the DVLA vehicle details confirms the engine size and the photo on Gumtree shows 6 (+1) ignition leads. Wikipedia shows a 6G73 engine that was a 2.5 V6, but only in use from 1990.

Any ideas what this engine is? And would it be an alternative power plant for an L300 (where 'power' might mean just that! Smile ).

If I had £1200 and some space I'd be looking to get this 'Shogan' anyway - I really like the look of these early ones.

In 1988 the Shogun/Montero was fitted with a 12 valve 6G72 3L V6 engine.

^ This is why I was confused - even on the DVLA records it is listed as 2500cc. Very odd.

An owner could of course have fitted a replacement engine.

The only way to tell would be to see which engine type number is cast on the block and check it against the chassis number / VIN plate.

Maybe - in which case, whatever it is, it could be an alternative power plant for an L300 (I'm assuming it's mated up nicely and working with the original transmission).

I found this:-

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/25V6.html

I've been wondering what goes in next whenever the current 4d56 dies (306,000kms / 28 years and still going without a rebuild). And with pollution and tax etc thinking petrol/lpg is the way to go.
Have been look at 4G range - then got distracted by a evo engine...
But there were 4 cylinder lumps up to 2.6 litres that may drop in as it is basically the same lump as the petrol 2WD L300 van. Just need to work out what the best donor vehicle to choose as the starting point.
