Hello,

does anyone here know if pre '92 L300s have catalytic converters?
I can't seem to find any information regarding this, want to know if it's possible to get my hands on an L300 without a cat.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Didn't have a "Cat" on my '89 L300.
Most diesels don't,but petrol L300s(non Delicas) might.

Not sure when they became a legal requirement on petrol models. However, my early R19 Phase 2 from 1992 had a cat, the last, preceding Phase 1s from 1991 didn't. Could be a clue?

It won't have one - it's a diesel.

Yeah sorry, I was thinking of the petrol powered L300's. In 1992 all petrol cars had be to fitted with catalytic converters when sold in Europe.

There have been diesels delivered with catalytic converters though, but I don't think it has any real effect on diesel exhaust... hence particle filters

I'm not familiar with L300's exhaust system, but usually its right after the "downpipe" that's bolted onto the turbo, if it's naturally aspirated it's connected directly on the exhaust manifold Smile

The regulations state that all petrol vehicles from 1993 onwards for the European market had to have a cat, and are emissions tested to a higher standard than pre-93 vehicles at MoT. If you remove the cat from a '93 onward vehicle, it is very unlikely to pass the emissions test. If you don't want a cat, check visually for one on the vehicle you are buying. (easy enough on a Delica!) Most cars built around that time had manufacturer's stickers on the windows to say so (although I don't know what the Japanese for 'Catalytic converter' looks like, and the regs were a piece of Euro legislation anyway.)
