Are the outer gaiters on the drivers side drive shafts the same as the passenger side?

Also the same question for the inner side.

Thing is my mechanic in italy told me that the inner on one side and the outer on the other side needs replacing...bu he cannot remember which side was which!!

The inner on each side is the same and the outer on each side is the same.

The outer ones are slightly longer, as per the photo below.

The inners cost me £25.28 per pair and the outers £19.90, both inclusive of VAT and postage. Smile

Currently BLUE PRINT are charging £17+ each for the inners and £42+ each for the outers. VAT is extra.  Shocked

I would suggest using these FCB6022 outers, they are not rubber but abs plastic, they also have a recess that sits in the groove on the outer CV shell to prevent it popping off under duress.

I will avoid using rubber CV Gaiters again as I am bored of changing them.

My local MoParts, also available on E-bay, they are made by First Line and have nothing to do with Mitsubishi.

Some numbers off the box - FCB6022 12J461CA THERMOPLASTIC CV Joint Kit

£6.99. :D

I have noticed our more modern cars all have these style boots.

I like the idea of something a bit more protective for offroading use.

How flexible are they, especially where the Clamps hold them to the driveshaft ?

I had always thought ABS plastic to be fairly still, as per the bullbar cowl, so would be a bit worried about water seeping under them into the joints when wading through water!

My Deli had the hard ABS type boots on it and they were all cracked and broken, not dissing anyones choice, just didn't look too clever to me but I want the flexability rather than over durability for off roading...

I suppose only time will tell. :?

Lewis as for the fit, they were tight to put on so after using my 8mm ties and pipe wrench I think I got a watertight seal, no grease has escaped anyway.

I firmly believe if you tried to stab the rubber boots and then the Thermoplastic boots with a large screwdriver the Thermoplastic boots would win the fight.

Rubber will also naturally perish/crack/degrade before Plastic, I sound like a salesman now.......just fit the ones you like. :D

As for Milner and Rubber products...................... Rolling Eyes

Though saying that it could also be down to not having the securing clips on tight enough.  Sad
I prefer to use HD plastic cable ties, as I can get them tighter, with an adjustable pipe wrench, than the supplied metal clips, which require a special tool to crimp them.

Lewis can you explain how you got the plastic cable ties tight? I installed thick HD on my front end but they slipped off after driving for a few weeks

I use a pair of these, using the rounded edge as a base for a lever.

Excellent, I will try a pair like that. The metal straps and tool are $$$ when it sounds like plastic straps, when installed properly, are tighter and better?

Use a large tie as they are wider:-
