Hi All, I was passing so popped into Hollands Wood Campsite in the New Forest, I wanted to check if I could sleep in the Deli overnight rather than just pull over in a layby.
I told the lady at the reception what vehicle I had and that all the seats folded flat to make a double sleeping space and that I had wind deflectors so I could keep both front windows open for ventilation, BUT she told me that any vehicle that people wish to sleep in MUST HAVE AIR VENTS and kick out windows, so it was best if I take the vehicle to them prior to booking as I could be turned away!!!
Has anybody else heard of this or is it an isolated incident?
She also told me that they had turned quite a few people away recently purely because of this.

Mike.

If your Deli has the normal toggle-clamp, front-hinged rear side windows, they constitute air vents. And I bet if you had to, you could kick them out in an emergency! Some people on here have problems trying to make them stay in, ie not fall out! They are probably worried that you are going to suffocate yourself leaving your gas cooker? or heater? on in a sealed van. Must say, that is a new one on me.

I'm booked into Roundhill Campsite later in the summer so will let you know if I get in.
Never had a problem on other campsites, but not used it on a forest site before. I do appreciate that the Pig looks like a camper with its pop-top (with roof vent), however I can't ever remember being inspected by anyone, ever!
Maybe you asked too many questions... Rolling Eyes

FYI _ I think kick out windows are related to fire regs so you can escape if the doors don't open/are locked and the vehicle is full of smoke - the idea being you can always get out.
I keep a fire extinguisher in mine  - I can throw that through a window!
But mine also has sliding windows so they will fall out with gentle pressure anyway

Thanks for the replies, I thought it was a bit of overkill on their behalf but the fact they said they will come and inspect the vehicle and eject me from the site if vehicle wasn't acceptable, just don't want to ruin a weekend away.

So what would happen if someone had an old, but very serviceable campervan, before these regulations came out into force?  That would surely rule out most old vw campers, and possibly, some caravans, not to mention tents!!!! I think they were afraid that you would churn up the grassgrass.

I have never been asked about vents and the like in mine sounds like "self and hasty" regs again.

She also mentioned about having a separate tent so that we could change clothes in and not in the truck

Eh so people turning up in their 50 grand motor homes will be miffed when they get asked where the tent is.

That rule is basically about no adult nudity on family camp sites (fair enough) - so if you have room inside the van to get changed and the curtains are good and thick (and closed) then fine, if not you need an awning or a little toilet tent thing to change in.
Too many naked type2 owners hopping around on one leg trying to get skinny jeans on and scaring old ladies maybe  Laughing  Laughing

The Rules...

And T&Cs
http://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/terms-and-conditions

Sleeping in cars or vans is not permitted unless the vehicle has side windows and a specially designed internal sleeping accommodation, such as fully reclining seats. A tent attachment for clothes changing purposes must be erected whenever a car/van is being used for sleeping purposes. Any windows in such units should have adequate curtains or blinds to ensure privacy. If you are in any doubt whether your vehicle will be allowed on our sites, please contact us with photos of your conversion for approval.

Jobsworths!!

My old Transit campervan would have been banned then.

Basically if they don't want you on their site go somewhere else.

We got turned away from a site in Betws y Coed. They said they only took 'proper' campers. Ours has had a conversion with a bed, storage unit and fridge but I didn't want to get into a discussion with the miserable sod so we just left.

Hollands wood is a massive site anyway and although I stayed a few times I much prefer Ashurst. Its a lot smaller and the staff are very friendly.
