It's long overdue that I actually get to see some of you guys in person.

Anyone up for a midlands pub meet? Beer, pies, slow-but-really-comfy cars? What more could you want on a sat afternoon?

Might organize a winter camp but it will be "up north."

*shrug*

I'm not adverse to the idea of some out of season camping.

I have this lovely luxurious camping trailer, and a nice comfy car to tow it with!.
Would be good to use 'em.

Great Langdale NT camp site is open all year, but cars have to stay on hard standing, no caravans or camp fires allowed, but dogs and above -ground barbies are. And the Old Dungeon Ghyll pub is only 5 minutes walk if it gets too unpleasant on site.  If people are interested in the Lake District as a venue, but don't like this site, I'm sure there are others. Should we start a new "Northern Camping Meet" thread?

Or how about Grizedale Campsite, near Satterthwaite, South Lakes. You can park on the grass, light a fire (judging by pic on the website) and hire a wooden pod (sleeps 4) for £60 for the weekend. Nearest pub, 1/2 mile Plenty of forest tracks for walking /biking.

Grizedale's not a bad site, though it does get busy over the weekends, especially the pods. Think we were particularly unlucky when we went and had a group next to us that were loud most of the night.  Fires were definitely allowed when we went a couple of years ago and the guy who runs it seemed a decent bloke.

Hey Andy, if Ime going to chat and have a few beers, 1/2 a yard might be too much to walk for bed in Delica.

Is it possible you can think of somewhere, whence pub and Delica bed are a lot closer  Question

Me being a bit olde, and overworked, therefore always tired,
cannot tolerate chatting to nice Delica folks outside in cold - wet weather.

Need to be inside, hot log fire and all that  Smile

The Feathers, off the A66 offers good parking a few yards up the road (Again, thank you for that tip  Smile )

Thinking you mean the Pheasant, between Keswick and Cockermouth, Derek? I  agree, very pleasant and handy . Did you stay in the pub car park, or on the old , cut off road?  I just thought it might be easier for more folks to get to the South Lakes. All opinions invited. If enough people want to try the Pheasant, I'll pop in on my way home and have a chat with the landlord.  The Drunken Duck near Ambleside might also be a possibility, it just depends on what are peoples' priorities.

1) Corrected - Thank you  Smile

2) The old cut off road, just before a gated road, I did not investigate it, wished I had, checked Street View, looks like it goes to the lake.

3) Don't know that  Sad Agree, it is more central.  (a)  You have mentioned it previously, 'an I forgot  Embarassed

Looking at Google maps street view, that looks very good, more so if the landlord would let us stay in the car park,
pub car park appears to be bigger than the public car park opposite.
After all, if a friendly bunch of car owners are going to buy a meal, and a few beers, I think he SHOULD agree  Smile

I have mentioned in earlier post, that I want to take shots of the Lakes  (a)  when snow is on 't hills.

Looking at street view, I like the look of the Drunken Duck area.

(a) Think that was last winter, if I remember, you said there was no snow.

I think a willing group leader should pick a place (Goyt Valley is a good choice) and a date ... and run with it.

I don't have fixed weekends, next Sunday is my 4x4 response training day, so i cannot book weekends ahead easily but would always look to make a quick decision much closer to the occasion.
