Hi all,
Any one know how to power some thing with a power rating of 12v 2A straight from the battery with out going through a inverter, trying to power up a screen for the ps2 which never came with a power supply.

Make up an adapter using a plug that fits the screen and a cigarette lighter socket plug. All items are available from Maplins

is it designed for automotive use?

you need to be careful powering stuff that wasn't intended to run on a car, to start with you can easily see the best part of 15V, will it survive that? Also the supply is very noisy, and can blow unprotected components.

Assuming it is okay in a car powering from the lighter is fine, but the ignition needs to be on to power the sockets, is that okay?

I'm planning on fitting a leisure battery and split charging to power all the ancillary stuff.

Thanks for the replys, sorry I have been at work and have just got back,
The screen is not for car use but is 12v dc at 2A. I don't think I can just plug it in due to the low amp. Is there any way to regulate the voltage and bring down the amps.
I am trying to save the £20 that it will cost for the power unit.

don't worry about the amps, it'll draw what it draws. It's only the voltage you need to worry about (and the transients). Can you contact the manufacturer, or look on their site about using it in a car? You may find that it's fine.
