|
|
Hello;
Has anybody fitted bike rack / holder on the Delica tailgate? (Not on the towbar, but above, at the window height)
Could you please recomend some product?
I have seen something like this for example on VW transporter
I would like to keep tow bar for other use
Cheers

don't know the make but remember seeing a post a while ago about this subject - Mystery Machine had to mod the tailgate on his L300 to get it to lift with a ladder, a bike rack + 2 bikes on it.
PM Mystery Machine he may be able to advise you.

Something like this? >> My bike rack
You'll need a tailgate ladder though..... _________________ '93 L300 Mystery Machine (Now in the hands of a new owner)

There was a rack like it made for the L300, a member here that lives in HongKong has posted a pic of his, however the chances of finding one here are slim, I ended up using the tow bar ones, my 4 bike one is incredibly sturdy. I expect a Fiamma from a VW or similar could be modded to fit, but they always go for more money than I fancy splashing out for an experiment. I know MM found one for a reasonable sum, but I seldom have that luck! |

Hi David, you may like to consider one of these, it is a towbar mount but you can still use the ball to tow with at the same time, i'm fitting mine on Saturday.

PS it's relatvely cheap compared with some of the racks i saw |

I've got one a friend gave me which is much like this:
It can be adjusted so the 'legs' fit between the window and number plate.
It is then is held onto the boot with adjustable straps with hooks that hook around the edge, top and bottom of the tailgate.
The image only shows four straps - Mine has six. I've found that if the straps are crossed over (ie the bottom ones hooked on the side and the side hooked on the bottom) its much more secure. You may want to put a bit of insulation tape on the tailgate where the hooks go to protect the paint - the pinkpig's paint is beyond hope so it gets scratched a bit.
This carries 3 bikes okay and you can still open and lift the tailgate with a bit of a heave! You might get four bikes on with a jiggle. I find the kids bikes sit better upside down.
I then secure all the bikes with a ratchet strap.
You'll need a trailer plate as the lights and numberplate are obscured. _________________ The PINK PIG!

The mini was probably white, prior to seeing MM blocking its rear view mirror! _________________

I have one permanently fitted to my tailgate, instead of clipping the rubberised hook straps to the tailgate above and below. I have used self tapping screws to permanently fix the straps on the inside of the tailgate behind the large plastic upper/lower covers.
This stops the scrotes from robbing the rack while your on your ride.
I will take a snap when I'm next near to the Deli.
PS. Its a standard 2 bike rack circa £65 from Halfords, covered in bungee straps and pipe insulation to protect my bike, its been on my van for 2-3 years now. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Sorry for the delay I am getting to grips with a new phone.
As you can see the rack keeps the bike nice and high, away from the plate and lights.
When there is no bike on the rack I can still open and close the tailgate because the two top straps are screwed into the inner tailgate skin.
Photo showing route for straps into tailgate and behing top panel.
Rack, pipe lagging and plenty of bungees.
