|

Can anyone help.
I have a motorised side step that works when the side door is opened and closed.
I had noticed over the last few days that it was taking its time to retract, but eventually got there.
Then today it didn't retract fully and the dash showed the door as being open. When the side door was opened fully the step did not move.
I drove home and opened the door and the step appeared but when the door was closed the step did not fully retract again and the dash showed the door as open.
I have sprayed the workings (or what i think are the workings) with silicone spray and eventually got the step to retract so i could put my alarm on and the door showed closed on the dash.
Does anyone have any ideas or know someone who can help. |

Sounds like you might have fixed it by spraying the lube perhaps the mechanism just needed freeing up (after all the road salt/snow/rain/road muck etc) Fingers crossed it should be okay :D _________________ . 92 L300 Exceed, Corse Grey/Grace Silver (with some bits of red)

I think am going to have to get underneath it and give it a good clean.
Should I put any grease on it and if so what? |

Hi if you want to grease it you'll have to shift the silicone spray....white spirit should do it and a nice wadge of morris grease should do it fingers crossed. I want those sort of steps to go with my nice sexy soft close door :D _________________ Delica convert....as the kids legs get longer the 4x4 gets bigger!!!! |

I got my boss to have a look at the step for me.
We didn't need to clean it up as it is a sealed unit, however on either side there are some rotary arms so he covered them in WD40 and it seems to have done the job for now.
I'm not convinced that it has totally cured the problem, but only time will tell.

Just a tip...
WD40 is not a good long term lubricant....
the Silicon Spray or white spray grease would work better.. _________________ Regards
