I tow my caravan and its a fair old weight...about 1200kg loaded....the Deli also about 2.8 tonne loaded...thats 4 tonne !

I had a blowout last time driving to Ilfracombe...my tyres were at 40 psi...is this too much...should I let them down to about 28 - 30 psi and let them have some more 'give' in them. Having highly inflated tyres, can they be too inflated for towing such a weight and carrying such a load?

Hi

If you've got the caravan manual it will give you the recommended tyre sizes and load rating with pressures for the caravan.  Ours' run at 51 psi  but ours is a heavy single axle caravan so the tyres on it are load rated at 98T, which is about 800 ish kgs each, with Tyron bands fitted.

I run the Deli at about 38 psi rears when towing but having said all that we also had a blow out on the right rear of the Deli whilst towing at 60mph in lane 2 on the M4 and the tyre was virtually unused! - you'd be amazed how tight your backside can grip the seat  Shocked   So these things can happen at any time.  HTH

Cheers

David

Hi notty, to low a tyre pressure can cause the tyre's to get to hot and catch fire. I'd try and ask at a caravan centre, they should know. I drive an HGV and my truck's tyre's are about 110psi

Hi

I forgot to mention that we don't carry passengers and most of the luggage is in the caravan so we don't have to run at too high a pressure.  It also depends on the size of your tyres ie ours are 235/75 x 15.
Cheers

45 psi Shocked  Better check your manual. Deli tyres according to my manual should be around 32 psi. I know a lot of people run more but I've read somewhere that if tyres are way off manufacturers recommendations that it's a possible mot failure and/or illegal and insurance won't pay out. Worth checking IMHO Wink

Just come back from devon and had all the tyres at 35psi. All seemed okay throughout.

when towing with the Deli tyre pressures are 38 psi in the Deli and 61 psi on caravan, heavy van with commercial rated tyres.
