There were only very minor issues affecting the Delica, and either elsewhere on this forum (or over on POCUK) there is a list of the recalls. Something to do with a crack appearing in the mounting plate for the throttle assembly and a rubber damper falling off the rear diff and I think that was about it. There was also concern at some point that the fuel pump could surge causing the Delica to lurch forwards (much like when the aircon compressor kicks in I guess) and this resulted in a couple of accidents. When stationary in any vehicle though you should apply the brakes!
Fuel pump seals can perish on any vehicle - usually as a result of the vehicle not being used enough and so the seals not remaining lubricated. Turbos can fail on any vehicle, usually as a result of running with no filter and a piece of debris striking the intake impeller, or running too much boost and the impellers failing, or through the oilways becoming blocked and starving the bearings of oil.
Timing chain - I don't reckon there's an issue. The one thing that will cause a chain to wear too quickly is running with knackered or poor quality oil. Again blocked oilways will contribute to this problem. On motorcycles, even the highest quality drive chains will stretch if you don't use decent/sufficient oil and keep them free of dirt.
I know that Mitsu UK can check for the Pajero if any recall work has been carried out. It may be possible for them to check for the Delica as well. _________________ Pete

do you think its true what they said on fight club about car manufacturers only doing recalls if the cost is less than the potential costs of a sueing? |
