|
|
Went to a 'Car Radio' shop today for a quotation to supply and fit a new radio to my L300.
I was told that that it would take a couple of hours as 'half the dash' has to be taken out. I'm not too bothered about the time factor, but I don't like the idea of the dash being dismembered just for the sake of a radio.
If this is the case, then the original radio can stay. Has anyone else had a radio fitted to an L300 and if so, was 'half the dash' removed? - Nigel. |

I didn't have to remove the dash at all to put a new headunit in. You only need to remove the plastic surround from round the headunit and air con controls. Maximum of three screws underneath it. Then simply unscrew the metal frame the headunit sits in, which has four screws and two bolts. Took me about ten minutes to do mine, so I'd say two hours just to do the headunit is a bit over the top!! You can get adaptors for the wiring from most car audio shops.
Now replacing the speakers is the annoying bit!!.

Decided to fit a radio/cd player myself, bought the head unit on an unmentionable auction site, radio/cd/mp3 etc all for £65, the ISO converter was another £3.50.
Took about an hour to get it done, and all works fine. There is a big hole under the head unit but I can live with that (Can't find a blank to fit - yet).
Next job is the EGR plate...... |

You should be able to get a pocket to fit under the stereo from most car audio places. Also, what I like the look of are those small TFT screens that fit in a single DIN hole and pop out. Mayme you should get one of them and get it onnected up to a DVD player, running audio through your new stereo. Just a thought to tempt you into spending more money _________________ Pete
