I just bought a used 1994 Delica Space Gear Exceed-1 2.5TD last month. My question is how do I know if the Turbo is working. Thanks!!

Hiya,

Have a look at the 'LACK OF POWER' topic in the L300 Tech section.
I have had turbo worries - but managed to sort them fairly easily - as it turned out to be the hoses and not the turbo.

Basically, if ur machine pulls well from about 1850 rpm (you may hear a slight whistle type noise from underneath the Delica with drivers window open - it's not loud - but you should be able to hear it - you can make it change pitch by playing with the throttle position - mine is most noticable at just over 2000 rpm) then the turbo is running fine. There isn't much in the way of boost - so you are not going to get anything like the sort of 'kick' you do with a petrol engined turbo - but the Delica / pajero engine is designed for torque (pulling power) and not speed.

In short - my problems started when I couldn't get any more than 50 mph out of it and it wouldn't pull the skin off a custard tart up a hill. Turned out to be the turbo hoses.
